FAQs

What is this?

A personal and ever growing collection of records to explore and play. Pick a sleeve, drop the needle, and listen.

What will I find here?

A broad and ever growing library of records, from the classics everyone knows by heart to the deep cuts you only find when someone who loves music points the way. Expect rock, soul, blues, folk, jazz, funk, psychedelia, and plenty in between, spanning the artists and albums that shaped how the rest of us listen. The shelves keep filling, so there is always something new waiting to be discovered.

Why does music matter so much?

We are hardly the first to wonder. Better to let a few people who thought about it say it for us.

Without music, life would be a mistake.
- Friedrich Nietzsche

Music is the universal language of mankind.
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.
- Bob Marley

Where words fail, music speaks.
- Hans Christian Andersen

Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.
- Victor Hugo

Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.
- Confucius

What does this NOT do?

There are no accounts, no ads, and no algorithm deciding for you. Just shelves to wander, records to spin, and your own ears to follow.

Why vinyl?

It was the first format that made music feel like an object you could hold. We kept that feeling. Drop the needle, watch it spin, and let the record play.

Where does the music come from?

The short clips and cover art you see here are previews provided by Apple through the iTunes service. They are meant for discovery. Each record links out to its page on Apple Music, where you can hear it in full and support the artists who made it.

Who owns the music?

Not us. Every recording, song, and piece of artwork belongs to its respective artists, labels, and rights holders. What plays here are brief previews used to help you find records you love and then go listen to them properly. If you hold the rights to something here and would like it taken down, write to hello@displace.agency and we will remove it.

Do you earn from the buy links?

Some records show a "buy the record" link that points to Amazon. Those are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It helps keep the shelves growing. Nothing else here is sponsored.
